The Negative Prefix


Prefix is an additional element placed at the beginning of a root, stem, or word, or in the body of a word, to modify its meaning. there are so many types of prefix, but here we are going to discuss prefix that give negative effect on the root:

1. In-

examples: * Inaction (In + Action)

* Insecure (In + Secure)

* Invisible (In + Visible)

* Intangible (In + Tangible)

* Intolerant (In + Tolerant)

2. Im-

examples: * Immortal (Im + mortal)

* Immovable (Im + Movable)

* Impossible (Im + Possible)

* Imbalance (Im + Balance)

* Immature (Im + Mature)

3. Ir-

examples: * Irregular (Ir + Regular)

* Irreversible (Ir + Reversible)

* Irrational (Ir + Rational)

* Irreplaceable (Ir + Replaceable)

* Irremovable (Ir + Removable)

4. Un-

examples: * Unbeatable (Un + Beatable)

* Undetectable (Un + Detectable)

* Unconditional (Un + Conditional)

* Unimportant (Un + Important)

* Unbroken (Un + Broken)

5. Dis-

examples: * Dislike (Dis + Like)

* Disadvantage (Dis + Advantage)

* Disaffected (Dis + Affected)

* Disagree (Dis + Agree)

* Disappear (Dis + Appear)
